Causes of Diabetes:

The etiology of diabetes mellitus results from abnormal glucose metabolism. The effects of diabetes mellitus lead to various other serious health ailments.

An inadequate production of insulin, or defective insulin production or the inability of cells to use insulin more efficiently causes diabetes.

This latter condition affects largely the cells of muscle and fat tissues resulting in a condition known as "Insulin Resistance."

This is the major problem in type 2 diabetes. In type 2 diabetes, there is a firm decline of beta cells that adds to the elevated blood sugars.

The main disorder in Type 1 diabetes is the absolute lack of insulin, usually secondary to a critical process affecting the insulin producing beta cells in the pancreas.

Basically, if someone is insulin resistant, the body can, to some extent increase production of insulin and overcome the level of resistance. If the insulin production decreases and when insulin cannot be released, all of the above factors cause elevated levels of blood glucose (hyperglycemia).
