DRUGS:

Hypoglycemic Drugs:  The diabetes mellitus medications can be administered to patients in two ways namely as

(A) Oral tablets (B) injected as Insulin.

(A). Oral Tablets:  When the tablets are consumed by the patients they actually act by promoting the secretion of insulin from the beta cells of the pancreas. 

The Oral Drug namely the sulphonylureas are taken by the patients with onset of diabetes after 40 years of age and taken for a short duration of period say for 10 years only. 

This drug is generally used in combination with performing this is not prescribed during any surgery severe infection or stress conditions.  One of the sulphonylureas is the phenethyl biguanide which is also used as a hypoglycemic drug. 

     

 

This drug has been recently advocated for obese patients and sometimes used with insulin to reduce the dose requirement.  Diet control is also important to the patients especially consumption.

There are four sulphonylurea compounds that are carefully available to treat diabetes which include Tolbutamide, Chlorpropamide, Acetohexamide, Phenethyl biaguanide and Phenformin.

A patient who is a mild diabetic can control the disease with his /her diet alone.  A patient with severe diabetes needs both diet control and insulin injection whatever may be the form of diabetes regularly control and management are crucial.
