OGTT-High Risk for Diabetes:

People with glucose levels between normal and diabetic have Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT). People with impaired glucose tolerance do not have diabetes, but are at High Risk for Diabetes.

About 1-5% of people whose test results show impaired glucose tolerance eventually develop diabetes.

Weight reduction and exercise may help people with impaired glucose tolerance to maintain normal glucose levels.

Some physicians recommend the use of medications to help prevent or delay the onset of diabetes.

Current studies have shown that impaired glucose tolerance itself may be a risk factor for the development of heart diseases.
