Type 1 diabetes mellitus:

Type 1 diabetes mellitus is characterized by the deficit of the insulin-producing beta cells of the islets of Langerhans in the pancreas, leading to the deficiency of insulin.

There is no known preventative measure that can be taken against type 1 diabetes.

Mostly the affected patients are healthy when it occurs.

Type 1 diabetes can affect children or adults but was traditionally termed "Juvenile Diabetes" because diabetes mellitus in children is found in this case

It occurs in Underweight Patients and less than 25 years of age. Insulin is deficient in these patients and when they consume more amounts of glucose they show no insulin response or Poor Insulin Response can be noticed.

They are more prone to ketosis which is nothing but an accumulation of ketone bodies in the blood, which when present in enormous amounts leads to coma and finally death occurs.

Therefore insulin therapy is highly recommended for this type 1 diabetes.
